RESTORATION continued
Plans are in hand to make the Chapel
usable once more and to set up a
heritage and educational resource
centre within it. Also an orchard and
nature trail along the north perimeter.
The former Superintendent’s Cottage
has now been converted into two flats
and whilst remaining part of the Trust,
has been let to Somerset Care & Repair,
and provides a small but regular
income.
The Trustees normally hold an “Open
Day” each year, when the Registers,
together with a copy of the plan of the
cemetery are available. This enables
people to locate grave plots, some of
which have headstones and are
therefore readily discernible, but many,
unfortunately, are not.
The day after the Open Day, a Service
is held at the site, to remember those
buried there.
The Open Day for 2021 is planned to
be on Saturday 4th September. and the
Annual Service on Sunday 5th The first
Burial took place on 7th September 170
years before.
The Cemetery is open at all times, but
the Chapel is only open on the “Open
Day” or by prior arrangement.
