NON-CONFORMISTS AND

DISSENTERS IN FROME

Frome has always had a strong history of non-conformity and after the introduction of the common prayer book in 1662 the dissenters split from the established church and formed several alternative groups who met for prayer and worship in the town. When John Wesley came to Frome to preach Methodism in 1753, there were already a number of Nonconformist groups meeting in the town, including the Rook Lane Congregationalists, the Quakers and the Baptists. Later came the Methodists, Primitive Methodists, the Zion Congregational Church and the Wesleyan Methodists. cont’d
